Volleyball is an interesting sport in recruiting. There's a ton of talent

in Virginia, especially in the beach area. There are a few clubs in the 757, plus RVC in Richmond, and a few elite level clubs in NOVA. I'm sure a 6'2" MB from Blacksburg is fairly rare, and I don't have an issue with any of the 3 we signed.

But, I watched a few of our matches this past season and we didn't look good. A lot of serving errors, late to setting the blocks, and overall, we were overpowered by average teams. I've seen a lot of players from RVC that could have started for that Hokie team that didn't get a sniff from VT. I get that our coach is from NC and she probably tends to trust those coaches, but NC is NOT a better state in Volleyball than Virginia.

Volleyball tends to be a odd sport in that coaches tend to recruit height over talent thinking they can coach the players up and you can't coach height. I get it, but that team looked bad. We don't have a strong tradition in Volleyball, but we are going to suck, we should at least suck with VA talent. At least then we'd establish a stronger tradition of in-state talent staying in-state.

FYI, UVA sucks too. Neither team is the best in Virginia, both ranked behind JMU, VCU and Radford.
